Our Review
The Monster iSport Immersion Headphones are very comparable to the Bose IE2. They both use a small sport clip that fits inside the ear, but not inside the ear canal (just outside the ear) to keep the headphones in place during exercise and training. We’ve only seen the earbud sport clip technology on the Sennheiser CX 680 and the Bose IE2. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite systems for ensuring the workout headphones stay in place and comfortably. In addition, the sport clip technology implemented by Monster also has a swivel effect for added comfort, which we found to be extremely helpful in achieving the perfect fit.
In addition to a rotating sports clip they’ve also included OmniTip earbuds. They put a lot of focus on comfort and created earbuds that actually allow for micro adjustments by using a swivel nozzle (see below) that pivots. The collateral benefit is that not only does it increase comfort but it also increases sound quality.
Did we mention they have a tangle free cord? No? Well, they do. Eventually the flat style cable that Monster is using will have to become the industry standard. Right now most sports headphones are still using circular cables which often times get tangled up and are a pain to just toss in your gym bag and carry with you. The flat cable that the iSport utilizes seems to be a lot more resistant to becoming tangled and is also a lot more durable.
The tangle free cable also comes equipped with inline controls. If you’ve ever tried running and changing songs at the same time you know how much of a pain it can be. In line controls are a must for those who want to enjoy their tunes without really interrupting their workout.
Monster is promoting this product as sports headphones for the extreme athlete and they are that and much more. Right now the Monster iSport is rated as our best sports headphones and we don’t see that changing for quite some time.
